Aries full moon chart

The Full Moon is on the 17th of October at 12.26 GMT in the sign of Aries at 24 degrees and 26 minutes. This is the third Super Full Moon in a series of four consecutive supermoons. The Moon will be brighter and appear larger than usual due to its proximity to Earth. In Aries, a sign ruled by Mars, this Full Moon brings bold, fiery energy, urging us to take action, assert our independence, and push forward.
This particular Full Moon is also conjunct Chiron the wounded healer, so themes around our sense of self worth, identity and independence could be particularly triggered with some intensity.
What makes this Full Moon particularly intense is the presence of a Grand Cross (aspect) configuration. A Grand Cross involves four planets forming a tense square with each other, creating a cross-shaped pattern. In this case, the Sun in Libra is opposing the Moon in Aries, and both are squaring Mars in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn. Adding to the complexity of the energies of the grand cross is the opposition between Venus in Scorpio and Uranus in Taurus, which could suggests a potential for sudden unexpected twists in relationships and values.

A The Grand Cross OF Tension and Transformation.

Firstly, we have the Full Moon opposition between the Sun in Libra and the Moon in Aries, which continues the balancing act between cooperation, compromise, and self-interest.

When the more emotionally driven Mars is in Cancer, square to both the Sun and Moon, it may suggest a sense of frustration or emotional reactions surfacing unexpectedly. This might manifest as passive-aggressive behaviours or feeling compelled to protect ourselves and loved ones in potentially combative situations. However with Moon and Mars in each others sign (mutual reception) there can be a chance to work through tension In a way that helps balance the energies allowing for more co-operation between emotional impulses and thoughtful actions.

Pluto stationed direct on October the 12th, bringing about its finale in the last 29 degrees (Anaretic) of Capricorn for the next 247 years. This ends not only a major cycle but a period of endings and massive transformation of the old structures.

Pluto’s involvement in the Grand Cross Square to Sun and Moon suggests an opportunity for deep transformation. Pluto in Capricorn represents power, structures, authority, and long-term goals. With its square to the Sun and Moon, it could indicate power struggles, bringing things hidden both internally and externally to the surface. Pluto is like the phoenix stripping away the old layers to reveal the new.  It brings with it the possibility for profound change by confronting hidden issues or letting go of outdated structures.

Freedom vs stability with Venus in Sagittarius opposing Uranus in Taurus

Venus in Sagittarius

Whilst the Grand Cross sets the tone for intense internal and external challenges, we also have Venus changing signs from Scorpio to Sagittarius later that same day. With this freedom loving Venus in opposition to Uranus in Taurus still in action, it suggests tension and themes of freedom vs stability. There might be a strong urge to be impulsive or a need for change thrown into to the mix, particularly in matters involving relationships, finances, and the things we value.

Uranus encourages us to break free from traditions favouring the unconventional and new, we could find we have unexpected developments or sudden insights involving how we come to view our relationships inside and out, self and other.

Maybe it’s sudden attraction or a re-imagining in the way that we love or how we view our relationship to possessions and security.

When Venus is in Sagittarius she has a strong desire for freedom and adventure, whilst the disruptive energies of Uranus in Taurus shakes up our security and stability so this opposition suggests a restlessness in these areas. Uranus is the awakener and at times it could feel as if things are suddenly out of our control. Learning to go with the flow, using the more naturally optimistic side of this Venus in Sagittarius could bring new adventures inviting us to be more free spirited and open minded.   Venus in Sagittarius is the adventurous visionary, so embracing change and adopting flexibility at this time might lead to exciting and sudden revelations, developing new broader perspectives.

Self-assertion and independence

Navigating the complex energies of the Moon in Aries, the Grand Cross, and the Venus-Uranus opposition makes this a highly charged and transformative period.
Full Moons are a time for releasing that which what no longer serves us. In Aries, it’s about letting go of fears or hesitations that hold us back from self assertion, independence and the courage to act.  The conjunction with Chiron gives us an opportunity for personal empowerment through vulnerability and self acceptance.  The tension from Mars and Pluto means this release could be intense, emotional, and possibly uncomfortable, but by using the energies of the full moon it reminds us that its a time for letting and releasing frustration and anger to help move us forward.
In conclusion, and with the rise of social media, we are all hyper aware of the conflicts around us collectively in the larger world. This Full Moon in Aries has a particular emphasises on the need to find the courage within us, empowering ourselves, rising to the greater challenge.
If you can embrace the unexpected and let go of what’s holding you back, there is potential to emerge from this period stronger and more aligned with your true path.
